This Herpes Simplex Virus infection (HSV) of the finger was acquired from a bathroom / washroom: the very place you'd expect to protect yourself from these invisible menaces. HSV is incurable, and the finger will most likely erupt periodically for life. Herpes Simplex infections have plagued mankind for thousands of years. To this day, and with all the scientific know-how we possess, people still have not been adequately taught how to avoid being infected with viruses such as HSV, yet it's quite simple.

Most of us have little consideration for microbes and their impact on our health until they alter aesthetic quality or cause functional deficits in a particular area of our body. For instance, consider seemingly harmless HSV (Herpes Simplex Virus) infection on the lips can be easily and accidently transfered to the cornea of the eye, resulting in blindness. And this is exactly what happens to a percentage of those infected with cold sores. Yet, we still aren't taught about the thousands of microscopic dangers around us: Microscopic dangers which ruin lives, yet, can be avoided.
